Fact Sheet
We are pleased to share we are now getting ready to start works at the Beveridge Intermodal Precinct after recently receiving the last of our primary planning and environmental approvals for the project’s first stage. This is an exciting milestone that marks the beginning of delivery of Australia’s most advanced logistics hub.
Stage 1 includes a permanent rail connection to the existing Melbourne–Albury–Sydney freight rail corridor and a basic terminal with no warehousing. Works are expected to be completed in 2028.
With approvals now in place, you’ll start to see more activity around the area as we prepare for major construction to begin in early 2026 once all necessary pre construction approvals are in place. We have appointed John Holland Group as the main contractor for this first stage.
Future planning approvals will be sought for Stage 2, which will include a fully automated freight terminal and land for warehousing.
The project is being developed on a 1,100-hectare site along Beveridge Road, owned by National Intermodal – an Australian Government-owned entity.

What we’re building
The construction of the first stage will involve:
- Building a new rail connection linking the Beveridge Intermodal Precinct to the Melbourne–Albury–Sydney rail freight corridor
- Developing a basic terminal with container loading and unloading facilities, storage areas, and weighbridges
- Constructing new internal roads, car parking, and underground services
- Installing administration buildings, storage facilities, lighting, and rainwater tanks
- Upgrading local roads, including Beveridge Road, Minton Road, and the Old Hume Freeway, to provide safe access to and from the precinct
Upcoming works
Over the coming months, you may notice increased activity around the local area as we prepare for major construction to start in early 2026. Upcoming works include:
- Erecting fencing around the site
- Using large machines to level the ground
- Establishing a site compound, including offices, car parking, and internal roads
- Installing sheds and shifting machinery to assist with heritage works
The majority of construction works will take place within the project area. However, you may notice increased noise and dust as machinery moves around the site. We will make every effort to reduce impacts on nearby homes and properties where possible.
There will be more trucks using Minton Street and Beveridge Road as equipment and materials are transported to and from the site. To keep everyone safe, traffic management will be in place for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Construction hours will typically be:
- Weekdays: 7am – 6pm
- Saturdays: 7am – 1pm
From time to time, some overnight work may be required to reduce disruption during the day, particularly to traffic.
We will do our best to minimise construction impacts and provide advance notice of disruptive work through signage, works notifications, and our website.
